Almost two years ago, Timur Lukas and Tom Król met each other for the first time by chance, as their works were exhibited beside each other. This spring, they have moved even closer together – in the overlapping hurly-burly of their first institutional, solo shows. However, for most of the time, these presentations remained hidden behind the closed doors of the NeueAachener Kunstverein due to the pandemic. Now, the works have been united in the rooms of the Kunstverein Augsburg – forming what one could call the first institutional double-exhibition by the two young artists. Their paintings communicate with each other and also their viewers, creating a loose musical score that develops into a composition with many voices. Occasionally, these are tonally expanded, supported and perhaps even disturbed by the accompanying music chosen by the artists. Following a sequence of five rooms, their subjects dance a pas de deux, reacting to each other.
At times, Król’s multifaceted portraits take the lead and exploit their freedom. At others, it is Lukas’s intensely colourful glimpses of, or rather into a natural world that is characterised and distorted by childhood memories, the forest outside grandma’s window

“Unite! Limbo Forest” is a combination of two highly engaging and fresh visual stances, not just for the viewers. After all, it is also the result of a spontaneous and fruitful cooperation between two art institutions in times that demand openness and closure in equal measure.
