With the annual Ostallgäu Art Exhibition, the town of Marktoberdorf offers artists from Bavarian Swabia the opportunity to present themselves to a larger audience in a museum setting and focuses entirely on promoting contemporary regional art. The confrontation with the unique architecture of the artists‘ house by Bearth and Deplazes plays a special role here. In the interplay with the building, art unfolds a very individual, site-specific, sometimes surprising intensity and creates entirely new, unusual fields of tension. The exhibition serves as a lively exchange between the artists themselves and with the public – in other words, a dialogue about art as a whole, about its ideas, its content or its vision for and in society.
The Ostallgäu Art Exhibition enjoys a high reputation and special status far beyond the borders of Marktoberdorf.
